TRAINING:
Calendar & Requirements

ALL staff* MUST attend BOTH of these trainings:

 Training #1: MEET THE DIRECTOR & YOUR UNIT

 Training #2: SITE SAFETY TRAININGS

*This includes all full- and part-time volunteers, AND Camp Arequipa aides. New volunteers must also attend Camp Skills Training.

NOTE: ADDITIONAL SESSION-SPECIFIC TRAININGS may be required by the Session Directors.

TRAINING #1:
• SUNDAY, April 21 – 9am-4pm
FULL DAY for all NEW adults; optional for returning adults and 1st year Aides
MEET THE DIRECTOR & YOUR UNIT is mandatory for all new and returning volunteers.
CAMP SKILLS TRAINING (the rest of this comprehensive all-day training) is mandatory for new adult volunteers and is offered to returning adults who would like a refresher course.
- BRING A BAG LUNCH AND BEVERAGE(s) if you are attending the full day.
- ADULTS & CAMP AREQUIPA AIDES ONLY, please! (no children)

MEET THE DIRECTOR & YOUR UNIT
Training will be held at Arequipa [map/directions]
Please arrive 15 minutes early!
In this training, you meet your director(s), other adult volunteers and Camp Arequipa aides at your session, get your unit/job assignment, and learn details specific to your camp session. NEW volunteers to Arequipa this year should plan to stay after the morning session until 3:30pm.
• 9:00-10:30 – Meet the Director & Your Unit SESSION I, plus leather for new adults.
Mandatory for all Adult Volunteers & Camp Arequipa Aides in the June 17 - 21 session

• 10:45-12:15 – Meet the Director & Your Unit SESSION II, plus leather for new adults.
Mandatory for all Adult Volunteers & Camp Arequipa Aides in the June 24 - 28 session

• 12:30-2:00 – Meet the Director & Your Unit SESSION III, plus leather for new adults.
Mandatory for all Adult Volunteers & Camp Arequipa Aides in the July 8 - 12 session

• 2:15-3:45 – Meet the Director & Your Unit SESSION IV, plus leather for new adults.
Mandatory for all Adult Volunteers & Camp Arequipa Aides in the July 15 - 19 session

CAMP SKILLS TRAINING (morning & afternoon)
Training will be held at Arequipa [map/directions]
During the rest of the day, you will find out more about Camp Arequipa, including:

  • Program Goals
  • Typical Camp Day
  • Your Unit
  • Tour of Camp
  • Archery & Leather (do a little of your own!)
  • Flag Ceremony
  • Working with your Camp Arequipa Aides
  • Ordering Supplies/What's Available
  • Camp Cooking
  • Adult/Girl Partnership
  • How to involve girls in decision-making, games, songs, ice breaker games, and more...

TRAINING #2:
SITE SAFETY TRAINING (mandatory for all)
You come ONLY the weekend right before the session you are working. SITE SAFETY TRAINING at Arequipa is mandatory for all adults and Camp Arequipa aides.

Specific dates and times:
• SESSION I: Saturday, June 15 – 9:30am-2:30pm
• SESSION II: Sunday, June 23 – 9:30am-2:30pm
• SESSION V: TBD
• SESSION III: Sunday, July 7 – 9:30am-2:30pm
• SESSION IV: Sunday, July 14 – 9:30am-2:30pm
All of these trainings are at Arequipa [map/directions]

The tentative training schedule will be:
• 9:30am – Site Safety Training & Session Specific Info
• 12pm-1pm – Staff Appreciation Luncheon (lunch will be provided)
• 1-2:30pm – Unit Set-up; Unit Leader/Camp Arequipa Aide planning time as needed, or session specific activities
